How to Reset Joomla Administrator Password

There are 2 ways to reset your Joomla Administrator password. This tutorial shall be divided into 2 sections. The first tutorial can be used to reset the password for Joomla user, except for Super User (Administrator)

Here are the steps to reset the password (except Super User)


First Method: Applicable for All Except Super User



Visit your Joomla administrator page at www.yourdomain.com/joomla/administrator and click on Forgot your password ? button. Remember to replace yourdomain.com with your own domain name.





On the next page, you need to type the contact email address set up at the registration and submit the password reset request as follows:




If you used the correct email address, the password reset reminder shall be delivered to you. So you are now able to recover your Joomla user profile access.




Second Method: How to Reset Super User Password Via PhpMyAdmin




Login to your cPanel account and click on PhpMyAdmin as seen below:




NOTE: In case you forgot where to locate your Joomla database name, please use File Manager to locate the php file called configuration.php. It's named in this format User_Yourjoomladb


Click on the " + " button to locate actual Joomla database. In my example, my Super username information is located on the 2nd page, so I need to go to 2nd page as highlighted below.




A list of tables will show up. Scroll down to find the one called users and click on it. Click on the edit button as well.




In the opened window, locate the password option and replace the current password with the new one in the Value column. Then change the function to MD5 in the Function column and click Go:




You are now able to access your Joomla administrator account using your new password.
