How to Perform Email Account Setup in Thunderbird (SSL Settings)

1) Launch Thunderbird on your computer and click on "Email" under Accounts > Create a new account.


2) Click on "Skip this and use my existing email".


3) In Mail Account Setup window enter the following details:

Your Name: the name you would like the recipients of your emails to see
E-Mail Address: your full Private Email address
Password: password for your email account.



Note: Make sure you do not have blank spaces in it.


Once all the fields are filled, click Continue:

4) You will see Configuration found by trying common server names.
Make sure Incoming and Outgoing configuration is using SSL settings. If not, we will have to change the settings from STARTTLS to SSL as shown in the sample screenshot below.

Do take note that username must be in full domain name e.g. support@yourdomainname.com
If not, we have to update the username accordingly.

To update the settings, click on the Manual config button as shown below:



5) In the next screen, select POP3 or IMAP from the Account Type list, and enter your details as follows:


For IMAP protocol use the following settings:

Incoming and Outgoing server: mail.yourdomainname.com

Protocol: IMAP Port: 993 SSL: SSL/TLS Authentication: Normal Password
Protocol: SMTP Port: 465 SSL: SSL/TLS Authentication: Normal Password

Username: username@yourdomain.com e.g. support@serverfreak.org



Press the Done button if you're happy with your IMAP settings.
That's the end of this tutorial!



For POP3 protocol use the following settings:

Incoming and Outgoing server: mail.yourdomainname.com

Protocol: POP3 Port: 995 SSL: SSL/TLS Authentication: Normal Password
Protocol: SMTP Port: 465 SSL: SSL/TLS Authentication: Normal Password

Username: username@yourdomain.com e.g. support@serverfreak.org



Press the Done button if you're happy with your POP3 settings.
That's the end of this tutorial!



Advanced Settings (Optional):
Perform the following steps only if you need to modify the Outgoing Server settings.

1) Left-Click on your account in the list of accounts and click on View settings for this account :



2) To manage Outgoing Server, click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) as highlighted below.
Next, press once to highlight your email account before clicking on the Edit... button.


3) Here you can find your current SMTP Server & Security and Authentication settings. You can make your desired changes accordingly here.

Once you are done with the changes, remember to press the OK button.
