# How to Install Joomla Template

There are two ways to upload a template in Joomla: through Joomla Admin Dashboard and through File Manager in cPanel.


### Part 1: Joomla Admin Dashboard

1. Login to your Joomla Administrator dashboard and click on **Extensions → Manage → Install**

2. Click **browse for file** and browse where the template zip file is located.

3. Once done, you will see a notification about successful installation:

4. Now go to **Extensions → Templates**.

5. Click on the **star icon** in order to select your primary Joomla template.

### Part 2: Via cPanel File Manager

Another way to install the template is to upload the template archive file to the joomla template folder, which is located it the root folder of your Joomla installation for example **public_html/templates/**. 

1. Login to your  **cPanel → Files section → File Manager** menu using **Upload** button:

2. Select the zip file from your computer in order to upload it to cPanel:

|| NOTE: You need to extract your template zip archive after the upload.


Once you completed the above steps:

1. Log in to your Joomla admin dashboard. 


2. Navigate to **Extensions → Manage → Install menu**:

3. Go to the **Install from Folder** tab and input the path to the template location in your cPanel. Then click on **Check and Install** button:

|| NOTE: Make sure the source folder do not contain other templates folder or else error message will appear. In our example, we use /tmp folder as the source folder 

If everything is done right, you will notice the message "Installation of the template was successful."

4. After the new template is installed, activate it in **Extensions → Templates** menu.

5. Click on the **star icon** in order to select your primary Joomla template.
