# How to enable Two-factor Authentication (2FA) for cPanel

**Two-Factor Authentication** (2FA) works by adding an additional layer of security to your online accounts. It requires an additional login credential – beyond just the username and password – to gain account access, and getting that second credential requires access to something that belongs to you

1. Login to your Control Panel (cPanel) account with your username and password at  http://your-domain.com/cpanel
| your-domain.com in the above example is to be replaced with your actual domain name



2. In Security section, click on **Two-Factor Authentication*** icon

3. Click on the **Set Up Two-Factor Authentication** button

4. To enable 2FA, it requires smartphone with supported time-based one-time password (TOTP) app.
Below list of apps suggested by cPanel:-

* For Android, iOS, and Blackberry — [Google Authenticator](https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/1066447?hl=en)
* For Android and iOS — [Duo Mobile](https://guide.duo.com/third-party-accounts)
* For Windows Phone — [Microsoft Authenticator](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/microsoft-authenticator/9nblgggzmcj6?activetab=pivot:overviewtab)

5. Once installed, you may use the app to Scan the QR code that appear on setup page.

6. If you have an issue with scanning, you can manually enter the acount information and key

7. Once succesfully add account on the device on Step 2 you may enter 6 digit generate code in column and click on **Configure Two-Factor Authentication** button
